Combustion : Simplified surface reaction

Passive autocatalytic recombiners (PAR) are implemented in the containment of water-cooled power reactors to mitigate the risk of hydrogen combustion. In the presence of hydrogen with available oxygen, a catalytic reaction occurs spontaneously at the catalyst surfaces below conventional ignition concentration limits and temperature and even in presence of stem. Heat of reaction produces natural convection flow through the enclosure and promotes mixing in the containment.
